2020 Sailing Dates
Marella Cruises (part of TUI) are sailing throughout the whole of 2020. If you are looking to sail away on a specific month then consult this calendar or scroll down for my cruise picks of each month.
Cruise Departure Ports
You can take a cruise from major ports around the world. I have highlighted and written some more information on some of the most popular UK departure ports that Marella cruises operate out of. Depending on where you want to visit in the world, you may be better off with a fly and cruise option.
Don’t worry about having to be a planning expert when building a fly and cruise holiday because Marella can handle the whole trip for you. When booking, you will have access to the full itinerary and make sure that the departure airport suits you.
Depart from Newcastle
Start your trip in Newcastle and head even further north to discover Northern Europe, Iceland, the Fjords and even the Arctic. These flight-free cruises operate from May-October and there are a few different cruise ships that cruise from Newcastle. Browse the Newcastle departures for 2020 here.
Depart from Southampton
Southampton is the cruise capital of the UK as it is the true gateway to European cruising! Whether you want to explore our close neighbours in Amsterdam and Bruges or head up to Helsinki or Tallin, Southampton can take you there. Set sail from Southampton in September on one of their super cruise adventures. Find out more about Southampton departures here.
Marella Cruise Destinations
Mediterranean
There are two cruising routes around the Mediterranean: east and west. Head west to take in France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Monaco and more on your next sun-kissed cruised. Set sail on an eastern Mediterranean cruise with Marella if you want to experience countries on the other side of the boot of Italy! Croatia, Greece and Montenegro are among the treasure troves you find yourself in on this cruising route.
You don’t need to travel far to have a special holiday and that is one of the reasons that this is such a popular cruising option for adults and families alike!
Caribbean
It is no secret that the Caribbean is home to some of the most beautiful islands on the planet! Sit back, relax and cruise around the islands without a worry in the world on a Caribbean cruise. The list of potential ports to stop is lengthy so it is worth taking a look for yourself and see what stands out to you!
Norwegian Fjords
A spectacular cruise that isn’t to be missed! You should make this trip in this summer to experience the best weather and fair sailing conditions.View Arctic, Iceland & Fjords cruises.
In September 2020, there is a 14 nights Northern Lights cruise that will go seeking the natural phenomenon and is a highlight in the calendar.
Asia
It is no secret that Asia is such a diverse continent. Experience the Buddhist culture and eat tantalising street food or head to the small but mighty powerhouses of countries like Singapore. Whatever you want to take from the continent, Marella have an Asian cruise suitable for you.
Greek Islands
Want to visit some Greek islands? Options are available through a Mediterranean cruise as mentioned above. To save time on searching, filter by Eastern Mediterranean cruises and you will find the 2020 routes that suit you.
Baltics
In 2020, Marella are putting on 4 Baltic cruises: Baltic Discovery, Baltic Charms, Baltic Explorer and Best of the Baltics. This broad selection of Baltic options is a nod to how popular this route is. Benefiting from a UK departure (Southampton) and so much to see on one journey, Baltic cruises come highly recommended.
Marella 2020 Cruise Ships
Arguably owners of the leading fleet to sail the seas, Marella has a cruise ship to suit every trip. I’ve put together some quick notes on each cruise liner that is sailing in 2020 to help you match the route and ship for you.
All sailing adventures with Marella in 2020 are all-inclusive. This is such good news as you can say goodbye to worrying about mounting expense at the bar or calculating suitable tips.
Marella Explorer 2
This ship is for adults-only so leave the kids behind and unwind in the Champneys Spa. You deserve it! This liner is navigating nearly all of the routes on offer in 2020 so you will have a plenty of chances to board this adult-only ship.
Marella Explorer
Unlike the Explorer 2 (above), families are very welcome on this ship. Built for entertainment and relaxation, the Explorer has a Champneys Spa and dining options to rival a high street! Entertainment takes place throughout the voyage in the expansive performance areas. This is a modern ship and that is evident throughout.
Marella Discovery
Discovery is truly part of this ships ethos. Whether it be discovering one of the many ports it drops anchor or the rock climbing wall and mini-golf, Marella Discovery has established itself as a real family favourite. Speciality restaurants keep the whole family happily fed while the indoor pool means that swimming can be on the agenda regardless of the weather.
Marella Discovery 2
Like it’s predecessor, the Marella Discovery 2 is an all-singing, all-dancing liner for the whole family. Watch the cinema under the stars in the dedicated outdoor space or grab some food in one of the eateries within. Taking the Discovery 2 ship opens up a whole host of routes and destinations to you so browse their 2020 sailing plans and secure your cabin!
Marella Dream
Dreamy. The Marella Dream lives up to its name. Plush bars, lounges and show arenas bring a West-End standard to the high seas. This award-winning entertainment ship is one for those who like the finer things in life!
Marella Celebration
Another thing worth celebrating in the Marella fleet! As the smallest ship in the family, Marella Celebration has an intimate feel and you are spoilt on-board. Whether you want to have a spa treatment or lose yourself in the on-board entertainment, the Celebration is a stand-out liner.
All-inclusive on Marella
As of May 2019, all Marella cruises are all-inclusive. This is a big move from TUI but one that customers have absolutely loved. What is included in a TUI all-inclusive cruise?
- Meals
- Snacks
- Drinks
- Flights
- Transfers
- Tips
When booking, you can accurately calculate the actual and complete cost of your cruise holiday. This peace of mind will allow you to enjoy every moment of your holiday and not be worrying about how much that cocktail has cost! Use this Marella calculator to see how much you can save going all-inclusive.
Marella Brochure Request
There are a few ways to get your hands on a Marella Cruise brochure for free. You can walk in to a TUI branch on the high street and ask for the Marella/TUI Cruising brochure to take home with you. If you are excited about your cruise and want to access it immediately then you can do so online now.
Month-by-Month Picks
It took a while but I’ve gone through every cruise that Marella are running in 2020! With so many on offer (and I now want to go on them all), I thought it would be helpful to share my top picks for every month of the year.
The TUI cruise website is really easy to navigate when searching for cruise by departure date and/or ports of call. As promised, here are my monthly top picks:
January 2020
Start 2020 with a trip of a lifetime! My January cruise pick is to board the Marella Celebration ship in Barbados and soak up the rays in the Caribbean. Titled, “A Taste Of Paradise” this cruise is a 14 day opportunity to experience true luxury in beautiful surroundings.
February 2020
Spring will not yet have sprung in the UK! My TUI February cruise pick is a true highlight in the annual cruising calendar: “Colours of the Far East 2”. You’ll start off in Thailand before heading to Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore. This is an adult-only cruise so treat a loved one to this exquisitie journey!
March 2020
My March pick is something slightly closer to home: Spirit of Iberia, Continental Coasts. Hop on the Marella Dream liner and cruise along some stunning coastlines. Spain, Portugal, Morocco and Gibraltar are on the agenda across 2 weeks of bliss on-board the luxury liner.
April 2020
If you are looking to depart in April, you are in luck as there are more cruises on offer than the previous months. Whilst that made the decision even harder, I did find a winner: Pride of Panama. This cruise will take you from lively Jamaica to historic Columbia and the “happiest place on earth”, Costa Rica.
May 2020
Sail away before the summer peak. Once again, I was spoilt for choice when trying to pick a cruise of the month! One cruise that pipped the others to the post was the Adriatic Splendours. The main reason this came out on top was I felt the land-based excursion options are aplenty!
Walk in the footsteps of the Games of Thrones cast in Croatia and create your own path up Mount Etna in Sicily. A favourite among holidaymakers, this is a cruise very much worth considering!
June 2020
The sun-soaked cruises around the Mediterranean remain appealing in June 2020. However, for my monthly cruise pick I have gone for something a bit different. Norway’s Midnight Sun is a stunning cruise that takes you from Newcastle to the Arctic Circle and back. This is a cruise that needs to be seen to be believed. A true gem in the cruising calendar.
July 2020
My pick for July is… something Mediterranean! At the height of summer, there are so many similar routes but each have their own unique features. To find one that suits you the most (a balance of sightseeing and relaxing on beaches), take a look on this page dedicated to July 2020 cruises at TUI.
August 2020
Even if the itinerary wasn’t appealing, the name alone makes me want to book this pick of the month: Legends of Fire & Ice. It may sound more like a blockbusting film than luxury cruise but don’t be fooled! Departing Newcastle in August 2020, you get to take in the Shetland Islands before sailing on to Iceland and Norway.
Stunning scenery, nature and geographical phenomena litter these northern countries. A must-see.
September 2020
This was probably the easiest pick of the year! Some amazing cruises take place in September but I just had to highlight the Electric Sunsets – 90s vs 00s Cruise. The best way to understand this adult-only, fun-filled cruise is to read more about it on our dedicated Electric Sunsets cruise page.
October 2020
The days may be shortening in the UK but it doesn’t mean you can’t find a slice of paradise. Say hello to my pick of October 2020, the Greek Getaway. If you enjoy a glass of wine, you are in for a real treat as you are going to find yourself close to vineyards to research.
November 2020
There are two Red Sea voyages in November 2020. I couldn’t pick between them so take a look for yourself and see which one takes your fancy!
December 2020
Celebrate the year you’ve just had with a dream cruise! The Caribbean Dreams cruise is the jewel in the crown of the December sailing calendar. Scroll up to find more about Caribbean cruises with Marella and why you should consider them for your next trip!
Cruise insurance
Getting the right insurance for your cruise is very important. Due to the unique nature of a cruise you might need to get a specific insurance policy. For example, the fact that you are travelling in multiple countries might mean you need a different sort of cover. But don’t worry, getting cruise insurance is really easy! Have a look at our dedicated travel insurance page to find the right provider for you.
