United Kingdom

The UK’s gardens are held in high regard. When they are looking at buying a property, with research claiming we will fork out up to £11,500 more on a home with a garden. For some, a garden is more valuable than an extra bedroom, meaning that even those of us who aren’t exactly green fingered love a bit of outdoor space to call our own. We pine for that perfect lawn, shed and relaxation area with a sun lounger – often on a raised area of decking boards.

On average, a garden in the UK is 15 metres long and is home to 10 different varieties of flowers, as well is the obligatory garden gnome. After all, is a garden really complete without one? The most popular floral displays include tulips, rose lavender and bluebells, all of which add colour to a vibrant space. Throw in a greenhouse, birdbath and washing line and you have the UK’s perfect garden. Unfortunately, though, we normally only spend 12 hours each month in our garden due to the nation’s temperamental weather and our busy lifestyles.

Italy

Whether it’s inviting our flying friends in for a drink of freshwater or providing nectar-loving birds with plants that delight them, they set up features to help entice the wildlife into the garden — similarly to how we do in Britain.

Society garlic is one thing found in many gardens here that is native to the country. It’s a worthy addition to herb gardens and the flowers bloom even under duress.

As soon as you walk in to the hotel, you will be struck by its chic design that will put a smile on your face. Low sofas and beautiful wall art that gives a nod to the famous artist, whose name is taken for the hotel name, and make you feel very at home.

Monet Garden Hotel Location

Having stayed at a number of hotels in the city, we were looking for something new on this Christmas trip. The modern Monet Garden hotel ticked a lot of boxes for us (and enough to book via booking.com). The Monet Garden hotel is perfectly situated in the city if you want to explore the city by foot. Step out of the beautiful Central station and you are 15 mins walk away from warm reception of the hotel staff.

During the swift check-in, we were shown the areas around to visit to help us get our bearings. We are fairly familiar with the city but this was helpful and would be even more valuable for first-time visitors.

Tip: if you need anything from a pharmacy or supermarket then simply come out of the hotel, turn left and follow the road till you see a row of shops on your right. Albert Heijn and Etos will sort out all of your needs!

Monet Garden Hotel Rooms

We opted to pay the small surcharge to upgrade for a canal view room and it is something I recommend that you do too. The modern room was well-equipped to make sure that your stay is comfortable; Nespresso machine, iron & ironing board, vanity kit, robes, slippers and the comfiest pillows you could wish for! Whilst we didn’t spend much time in the room on this trip, it was ideal for us and is the perfect base to explore Amsterdam. Room 600, thank you!

If I had to be super picky, it would have been nice to have bottles of water in the room when the team restocked the coffee. We bought bottles from the reception in the morning on the way out for convenience. The fact that this is my only point of feedback should show how much we truly loved our stay the Monet Garden Hotel.

We didn’t eat breakfast at the hotel as we like to explore new places during our city trips. As we walked past and saw the extensive buffet, the smell nearly did draw us in! As a general rule, hotel breakfasts are pricey and you will get better value by walking out of the front door and doing a little search of your own.

If you want a tip then grab a coffee and stroll to Museum Square. This 25 minute walk allows you to take in the beautiful morning mist that can sit over the canals and reward yourself with a kaas tosti at the Cobra cafe. Head a bit further to Vondelpark and you’ll discover a lovely cafe for breakfast and lunch. Well worth a visit!
