Milan is the capital of the province of Lombardy and the most important commercial center of Italy. In Milan you will find many opportunities for shopping but also many museums, galleries, palaces and churches with magnificent works of art, most importantly the Duomo and the famous La Scala Opera House. It is also a very good starting point for visiting other areas of northern Italy such as Como and Gardaland but also Switzerland, which are all very close.

Start your walk from the city center and the Duomo, the symbol of Milan, with the golden statue of Our Lady of “La Madonnina”. Then head to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping center for a first look at the shop windows and continue to the exit leading to Piazza della Scala. You will find yourself right in front of the famous Skala, perhaps the most important opera house in the world.
Time to find some art
Towards Piazza Sant’Ambrogio, one of the most fascinating places in the whole city, you can admire the Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio in the Romanesque style, dedicated to the patron saint of Milan, Saint Ambrogio. Nearby is the Catholic University, a former monastery. From here you can take a stroll along Via San Vittore. On the left side of the street, you will find the Museum of Science and Arts – Leonardo Da Vinci, an important museum that gathers the fundamental points of the technological progress of humanity and which is dedicated to the genius of Leonardo Da Vinci. There are plenty of artistic treats in the city which come highly recommended by some of the best travel websites.
