How to search on Hostelworld
Searching for accommodation on Hostelworld is as easy as any good booking could be! Whether you are looking for a specific property, a location or are just browsing for inspiration then you will find what you need on their website.
You can start to use the search bar on their homepage by just typing in a location. The entry can be as general as a city or as broad as a country. If you are just browsing for different kinds of accommodation available then you can leave the dates and guests as the default.
Note: the price is likely to differ for the dates you actually want to book if you don’t select them on the first search.
You can sort your search results by price, rating, location or name. You can also filter the search results by six categories: price, room, facilities, rating, type and payment.
We recommend having a proper look at the guest reviews on each property. Hostelworld prides themselves on their 10 million guest reviews so it is best to make good use of these.
Some properties might have a high rating, but only a handful of reviews – it is helpful to keep this in mind. Try to choose a hostel with plenty of (good) reviews so you know what you are booking!
How to book on Hostelworld
Just like searching on Hostelworld is a piece of cake, making a booking is just as easy! Once you know where you want to stay, the dates and how many people you are with then just go on the relevant property page on Hostelworld.
At most properties, you can choose what type of booking you prefer. The core options are a choice of non-refundable and flexible bookings. A flexible booking costs a bit more but has the bonus of being changeable if your travel plans change.
Now it is time to click ‘Book Now’ and fill in your personal details. Ensure your email address is correct and you have access to this as you need it for your booking confirmation. Most properties won’t honour the booking if you don’t have this confirmation to hand!
When it comes to payment, Hostelworld accepts the following payment methods:
- Visa
- Delta Visa
- Visa Electron
- Mastercard
- Switch
- JCB
- Laser
- PayPal
As soon as you click ‘Confirm’ your booking will be processed and your card will be charged. It is important to make sure you are confident of your booking before clicking this button as most bookings will be non-refundable.
Boring advice alert! Read the terms and conditions to know what your rights are as a guest.
Hostelworld reviews
If you are looking for reviews of hostels or accommodations that are listed on Hostelworld, go to their website and simply search for the name of the accommodation.
Hostelworld has more than 10 million verified guest reviews. The great thing about Hostelworld is that you can only leave a review if you have actually stayed in the property. Verified reviews provide that added layer of trust.
If you are looking for reviews of Hostelworld as a booking site, you can do a quick google search and will find a host of sites offering up their opinions. We found this in-depth review by Hostelgeeks very handy.
Best price guarantee
Hostelworld also offer a best price guarantee. This means that if you find the same accommodation for a cheaper price somewhere else then they will match this for you.
Of course there are some terms & conditions attached to this. An example of this is that you need to make Hostelworld aware within 24 hours of making the original booking. The alternative booking option also needs to be available in order for Hostelworld to verify your claim.
There are some other requirements too. Have a look at Hostelworld’s best price guarantee page for more information and the form where you can make your claim.
Cancel your booking with Hostelworld
You can cancel your booking with Hostelworld up to 24 hours before the check-in date. This is easily done online through your account section. Within 24 hours of your stay, this option is no longer available without a charge.
There are often some terms and conditions attached to cancelling your booking. We recommend thoroughly checking what the hostel offers before you confirm you’re booking. Some hostels ask for a 10% deposit when booking which you won’t get back if you cancel.
There are multiple types of booking and refund policies:
- Free cancellation booking: please check your confirmation email for the latest time you can cancel (the is in the local timezone of your accommodation!) You can cancel this on your account on the Hostelworld website. The refund will be processed automatically and the money will be transferred back within 7 working days.
- Flexible booking: you can cancel your booking just like the free cancellation booking, the deposit credit will be added to your Hostelworld account immediately, you can use this credit for your new booking if you use the same email address.
- Non-flexible booking: you just click cancel on your account and that is all.
- Non-refundable booking: when you cancel on the Hostelworld website the property is notified of this. They can still charge you in full, even after you have cancelled. It was a non-refundable booking after all.
Please watch the video below for more information on how to cancel a booking with Hostelworld.
