Travel options & advice for the Qatar 2022 World Cup

If you are planning to attend the next World Cup event in 2022, your travel options and plans could be jaded through the current global pandemic. But as doctors and nurses fight the coronavirus, travel restrictions will eventually resume. And given the fact we have over a year to plan our travel, we expect countries such as the United Kingdom to be removed from Qatar’s travel ban list, once virus protocols have been regulated and the disease is under control.

But until then, planning your trip to Qatar should be a priority If you want to secure your position. The World Cup is the single most popular event in the history of sports. The magnitude, preparation, and excitement are unmatched, resulting in high demand for flights, hotels, and ticket bookings.

Preparation is Key

Whether you’re traveling by plane, a local to Qatar, or living life to the fullest by hitting the open road, Football fans worldwide have been disappointed with their previous World Cup trips and for one reason only – lack of preparation.

Before you can even begin to create a Qatar itinerary, securing the precious 2022 World Cup tickets are your priority. Ticket sales have yet to be announced, but before you decide to pay up-front with individual costs (e.g. hotels, car hire, etc.), please bear this in mind. Your World Cup ticket isn’t guaranteed, and with the COVID-19 pandemic, we are still unsure how many tickets will be available.

Certain establishments will allow customers to pre-book their hotel rooms in advance, this method is recommended given the high-demand during World Cup events.

Familiarize Yourself with Qatar

The World Cup 2022 will take place in the Arab country of Qatar, which will go on record as the smallest country to host the World Cup in its ninety-year run. Beautiful beaches, scorching deserts, and modernized skyscrapers can be a tourist dream. Footie fans should tread lightly, the Arab countries laws and culture steer from the natural rowdiness that Football can often generate. However, a more conservative outlook and how to conform in the Middle East is no problem at all – unless you are an idiot.

Give respect by following the dress code, westernized culture has a slightly different view, but whilst in Qatar, you are expected to follow the culture and should enjoy the moment rather than being rude. Ladies, covering your shoulders is not too much to ask and avoid the noticeable short skirts. For the men, shorts that sit below the knee are the usual approach – and keep your top on!

Alcohol consumption has swept through 100’s of cultures and countries, drinking and Football go hand in hand for a British fan. But Arab laws prohibit the consumption of alcohol in public, and you will be arrested for socializing in public whilst under the influence.

Public displays of affection are also frowned upon; from cuddling, kissing, and holding hands. Residents could report you, so be sure to love one another behind closed doors.

VISA, Planes & Currency

Over 80 countries are welcomed to a visa-free entry into Qatar for tourism; you will find no problem in entering the country through its high-ranked airport ‘Hamad International’.

The local currency is called Qatari riyals, and you’ll want to exchange beforehand as cash purchases are quite popular amongst taxis, local transport and traditional areas of the country.

A host of airlines fly to and from Qatar, but some of the most popular include Qatar Airways, British Airways, Iberia, and Jet Airways. Wherever your current location may be, entering Qatar will not cause issues during the World Cup.
