I love going out for cocktails! There’s something about ordering a cocktail that makes your evening a bit more special, like an occassion (even though it can be your average Thursday night!). The tastiest ‘classic’ cocktail for me would have to be a mojito, but my all-time favourite is a whisky sour. You will have no trouble finding nice bars in Bedford where you can have a lovely cocktail, but if you’re mind is drawing a blank: here are my favourites!
Pen & Cob at The Swan Hotel

Pen & Cob is a super fancy bar in the Swan Hotel, located beautifully right by the river for the best views. I personally love coming here with my friends, a bit dressed up and order a fancy cocktail before going out to dinner somewhere. The blue, green and dark yellow combination looks absolutely dreamy and gold touches throughout the bar and restaurant make it look very sophisicated. I know this sounds weird, but please don’t miss out on a visit to the toilets – they are gorgeous!
Ours
If you want a réal cocktail, you go to Ours. With a classic cocktail menu you can always opt in for your favourites, but tell the bar staff what drink you like and they will mix up something that is beyond delicious. The industrial style decoration and dance music make it a perfect place for an after-dinner drink. I can imagine it gets pretty fun in there late in the night (but I’m yet to discover this myself!).

Bears and Tales
Bears and Tales is an abolsute favourite with Bedfordians. A small but cosy cocktail bar that is ideally located in the centre of the town. I love going to Bears and Tales for a drink before going out somewhere for live music or a dance. They have very unique cocktails, I highly recommend the Bruised Apple!

Auction Rooms
The Auction Rooms is great if you want to enjoy a drink and dance after dinner, a bit later in the evening. It’s always really lively in there and you won’t be able to resist a boogie! With a wide selection of tasty cocktails and other drinks, this is one of my favourite weekend-night places to go in Bedford.

The Lane

As you can image from the image below, The Lane is the perfect place to hang out on a summers’ evening. With a massive outside space next to Castle Mound and (just about) overlooking the river, I love coming to The Lane after a sunny day. They have a range of classic cocktails, as well as different brands of champagne if you’re feeling fancy. With live music and tasty burrito’s from the restaurant next door* you can set up here for a good session. *Your usually allowed to bring the food in from the restaurant, but please ask first!
