Getting crafty is a great way of entertaining yourself. Especially with the colder weather coming up, doing crafts is a wonderful way of keeping yourself busy inside. Crafts are also proven to help you relax! I love doing crafts after a long day of work, working with my hands takes my mind of work issues and eases my mind. If you have never done crafts before it might take some time to get the hang of it, but it is definitely worth it. Here are some of my favourite crafty things to do.
1. Embroidery
I got into embroidery about a year ago when I found some embroidery kits in a shop. To be completely honest, it can be quite tricky if you haven’t tried it before! I recommend buying a beginners kit and starting with this. When you’re a bit more advanced you can move on to more difficult patterns or even make your own. Beginner embroidery kits are a great way to keep children occupied as well. Most shops have patterns in all shapes and sizes, which means you can easily find a design to suit your style. Whether you make a cushion, sheet or wall hanging, your embroidery can make a great gift for someone!
2. Make a scrapbook with pictures from your holiday
What better way to honour the great times you had on holiday by making a scrapbook? Nowadays we usually keep our pictures on our phones or tablets, but hardly ever make photo albums anymore. I usually try to make a scrapbook of every trip I’ve been on and keep these in a dedicated book case! This is great for when friends or family come round and ask about my trips; I can simply show them the scrapbook! I love to use svgs to make them personal. From quotes to funny images, everything goes! What’s nice about SVG templates is that they don’t become pixelated when you resize them. And they can be used on all sorts of materials depending on your machine: cotton, felt, vinyl and more.
3. Make cards for loved ones
Making your own cards is a fantastic way to get creative. You can start on any level you wish, even if you have never done any crafts before you can make a beautiful card! What’s great is that you can make and hand out these cards to your loved ones. There are lots of designs available online or in craft shops, and just like scrapbooks you can use svg templates. Make a 3D card in any style for a birthday, Christmas or just ‘because’ and send your family or friend a personal message. You can also download travel-related images and send a homemade card from your holiday location! As you get more advanced and confident with your card-making skills you can make the designs more difficult and impressive!
The above are just a couple of ideas on how to enjoy different kinds of crafts! Of course there are lots more, like making candles (which I will discuss in detail in a blog post soon). With the autumn and winter seasons on the horizon, getting crafty is a great way to keep yourself entertained whilst staying warm and dry.
