I love celebrating every holiday, birthday and anniversary. And your parents’ anniversary of their wedding is a big day! Whether you are enjoying this day with a big celebration or keeping it small, it is nice to mark the occassion. There are plenty of things you can do on the special day: a nice gift, big party or dinner are only some of the options available to you. Here are my ideas on how to celebrate your parents’ wedding anniversary.
Get them a gift from the heart
I don’t think anyone will be surprised by hearing an anniversary usually involves some kind of gift. But this doesn’t have to break the bank! As long as you find a gift that comes from the heart and has personal meaning, it will be amazing. Your gift very much depends on how many years your parents have been married. Every anniversary year has a particular traditional gift. I’ve added a short list below so you can check which one is coming up.
For years like paper, wood and sugar (6 years), you could think about making your own gift. Crafting a gift out of paper (like a collage), getting creative with some wood carving or baking them a sweet treat could all make fantastic presents that are cost-efficient too. Is it your parents 25th wedding anniversary coming up? Today, many different cultures wear birthstones as pieces of jewelry, so why not surprise them with something like that? If you’d like to know more about birthstones and moonstones, you simply must visit MoonMagic. You can also find lots of silver anniversary gifts for parents out there.

Organise a nice dinner
How you want to fill in the details is completely up to you! Are your parents really social and would love to have all their friends and other family members there? Throw a big party! If their anniversary is in the summer you could consider a big barbeque in the garden.
If your parents prefer a quiet night in, you could cook them a beautiful dinner and make a romantic setting in the dining room. Lots of candles, low light, roses and some music will set the mood for a special anniversary dinner. Cook them their favourite meal as a surprise!
Plan a day out
I personally always prefer ‘experience’ gifts instead of material ones. A day out in a new town, a nice walk somewhere or a theme park are my favourite things to do for a special day. You could plan you parents a nice day out for their anniversary. If they are daredevils they will love something like Thorpe Park or Chessington World of Adventures.
Are they more of the relaxing type? You can go punting on the river in Cambridge and enjoy a relaxed lunch by the water. Wherever you are in the world, there is always something fun to do nearby! And it does’t have to include expensive tickets. A long walk in a nearby park with a homemade picnic can be just as special.
However you plan to celebrate your parents’ anniversary, it should most importantly come from the heart. You probably know your parents very well, so organising a big houseparty if they are more the quiet type would not be right. Remember that it doesnt’ have to cost you lots of money either. Your parents will appreciate the thought that goes into celebrating their special day, not the amount of pennies!
I’d love to hear how you’ve celebrated an anniversary before or what your plans are for an upcoming one! Let me know in the comments.
