If you were asked the question, “what is the most popular tourist destination in the UK?” the chances are that your reflex reaction will be, “London, of course!”. You would be wrong! A new study from Best Western has revealed the top 10 destinations that holidaymakers have been drawn to. Without any further ado, here are the top 10 UK travel hotspots.

Top 10 UK tourist destinations:

  1. Glasgow

Yes, Glasgow has taken the top spot on this coveted list! We love this city and are pleased to see it getting the recognition it deserves. With a rich history to explore and leading venues such as the National Theatre of Scotland, Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and more. Read out guide to a Glasgow city break to get more inspiration before you travel.

      2. Edinburgh

We stay in Scotland for the next destination on the list. Edinburgh has been covered in our travel guides numerous times because of the spectacular scenery, cultural sights, superb eateries and more. To get a better idea on why you should visit this #2 hotspot in 2018, read our guide to Edinburgh city breaks.

      3. London

Here it is! Although it couldn’t take one of the top 2 spots, you don’t have to look too far down the list to see the English capital. London has everything you can possibly want for a weekend away (as long as you don’t mind the hustle and bustle). Planning ahead sounds boring but is worth doing if you are visiting London. Don’t let a small holiday budget put you off this vast city by following our London break on a budget tips.

      4. Manchester

Now the home to British TV production, investment has flooded in to this northern powerhouse. There is so much to do and see in this easy-to-reach city, it was no surprise to see Manchester so high up on this list. Manchester city breaks are growing in popularity and we expect this trend to continue in the coming years.

      5. Bath

Historic Bath has more to offer than the Roman spas but that is certainly a must-see during your visit! A much more relaxing weekend than the above busy cities, Bath is a family-friendly holiday destination for staycations. If Bath has made you think of a spa break then you can find a spa break deal here.

      6. Brighton & Hove

Take in this Instagram-perfect seaside town. With colourful beach huts, the i360 experience and the world-famous pier you are spoilt for choice on what to do during your weekend at the beach! Great transport links make this a very popular destination for a seaside holiday without the need to leave the shores of our country. Go to Brighton for a break if beaches are your thing!

      7. North Yorkshire

Escape your day-to-day stress and head to North Yorkshire with your family. York is full of lanes to explore and you are in touching distance of the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. Take your hiking boots and leave your phone behind to fully immerse yourself in the scenery. Visit York and you won’t be disappointed.

      8, 9 and 10

We have bundled together the final 3 places on this list. It is not because they don’t deserve their own sections but simply to make this list as digestible as possible! Devon, Cornwall and Dorset are all well-worth visiting for a variety of reasons. Whether you want to walk on sandy beaches, see the landscape of the Jurassic Coast or get lost in a National Park then look no further. Search our guides to find out more about each of these unique hotspots.
