Is your family too big for a caravan?

Owning a caravan can be absolutely amazing. It gives you a “free” form of accommodation, meaning you don’t have to pay to stay in hotels or holiday parks. Sure, you may pay a small fee to keep your caravan on a campsite, but it will be remarkably cheaper than paying for a hotel. Plus, you could camp in many other places for free – it offers a new way of enjoying yourself when you travel.

There’s one question that might stop you from getting a caravan. Is your family too big for one? A family of two or three shouldn’t have any issues, but when you have four, five, or more, can you all fit in a standard caravan? Here are a few things to consider:

Caravan size

Obviously, caravans come in different shapes and sizes. Small ones are probably not going to be suitable for large families. However, you can definitely find some that are small enough to be towed behind your car, yet large enough to house a family of four or five. Your best bet is to look inside the caravan before you buy it – bring your whole family with you to look around, sit inside, and see if it is large enough for you. You want there to be enough interior space for everyone to sit inside comfortably!

Sleeping arrangements

Another thing to consider is how many beds there are inside the vehicle. If you have a family of three, most caravans will provide two beds in a relatively confined space. But, if your family is bigger than this, it’s a good idea to look for a bunk caravan for sale. Essentially, this is a caravan with a bunk bed, meaning you get an extra bed without taking up more floor space. In fact, some bunk caravans will have a three-tiered bunk bed that can sleep three children. You could also find ones that have the main bed, a bunk bed, and another table that can be converted into a bed. So, from a sleeping arrangements perspective, caravans can be suitable for sleeping anywhere between maybe 3 or 4 adults and 2 adults and 4 children.

Extra features

Sometimes, it is possible to find a caravan that’s got just enough interior space, yet it lacks the ability to house all your family. However, you can get extra features that make the caravan more suitable. Specifically, you could attach an awning or a big tent to the side of the caravan, creating more social space and extra sleeping quarters. Someone can sleep in the tent in a sleeping bag, and you could have some chairs outside under the awning to hang out. It’s a really smart way of extending your caravan’s space without needing to get a massive mobile home!

To answer the initial question, your family isn’t too big for a caravan. The average family can easily fit inside an average-sized caravan – though you might need an awning to extend it depending on what the sleeping arrangements are. Now, you’re ready for an exciting family vacation that’s like nothing you’ve ever experienced before!
