Whether in your personal life or your professional life, we all hit a rut sometimes and need a little break from “it all.” We use that phrase so loosely sometimes… “it all”… We use it so loosely because it can be a multitude of things in our lives. The majority of the times, “it all” is in reference to things that we are obligated to.
Your job, your kids, your relationships… all of those are obligations we have that we don’t want to abandon but sometimes we need a break from them. That’s what vacation days are for with your job. Vacation days are put in place for workers to take some time off and enjoy life outside of work but all too often, we don’t even utilize the vacation days we have earned.
According to ustravel.org, there are 768 million vacation days that Americans aren’t using. Why are all these vacation days being left on the table? Well, some people feel like if they leave for vacation, their work won’t get done or that the business will fall apart without them. Others feel like if they leave, they may not have a job to come back to… And with that situation, if you feel like you may not come back to your job after a vacation, it sounds more like you might need more than just a vacation… you might need a career change as well.
The stressors of work can definitely wear you down to a point where you need a mental break but there are stressors of home that can make you feel the same way, especially when you’re also dealing with the stressors of work in addition to the stressors of home. Home stressors can include housework and not being able to stay on top of it. Another home stressor can be your kids too.
As much as you love your kids, they can absolutely drive you up a wall sometimes. And it’s perfectly normal to feel that way… you’re only human. But when you take those work stressors and put them on top of home stressors, it can be a major wake up call that it’s time for you to take a little time out for yourself and go on a vacation.
There are certain signs that let you know you might need an extended lunch break for the day but then there are tell-tale signs that tell you that you are long overdue for a much-needed vacation. If you are suffering from any of these signs, both personally and professionally, it’s definitely time to start planning a vacation for yourself. Take a look at the signs.
Sign 1: You and Your Partner Haven’t Spent Much Quality Time Together
As a couple, you’re both so busy trying to make sure the kids are fed, the dog has been walked, and the chores are done that in the mix of all that, you neglect to carve out time for each other. The health of a relationship is very important to your stress levels.
Typically, when rifts arise, it’s due to neglect somewhere in the relationship or marriage. Once you see your relationship hitting the rocks, it’s time to step back and evaluate the possible cause of it. Sit down with your partner and talk about it too… Find out why you’re arguing with each other more or why little things seem to be getting under each other’s skin now…
Sometimes couples get “on edge” with each other because they’ve put each other there. It’s not necessarily intentionally done but when you notice this happening in your relationship or marriage, you need to start looking into romantic destinations you and your partner or spouse can go to and get back to the core of why you fell in love with each other in the first place. There are romantic destinations in Europe that are perfect for spending quality time together as a couple.
Sign 2: Your Job is Getting Harder to Go to Each Day
Everybody gets the “Monday Blues” from time to time but when you start to notice a shift in your feelings about work, to a point where “Monday Blues” seems to turn into “Everyday Blues,” it’s a tell-tale sign that you’re in desperate need of a vacation.
Maybe the laugh of one of your coworkers get more annoying every time you hear their voice or you find yourself making little mistakes and no longer finding yourself fulfilled in your position, it could be a major sign you need to get away and go somewhere to clear your head.
Some people experience severe cases of “Monday Blues” to a point where a vacation isn’t what they need at all… Some people get to a point where they need a complete career makeover! The thought of a vacation sounds appealing but the thought of an office environment makes your skin crawl… if that sounds like you, you might need to explore the world of entrepreneurship, especially with an online store.
As an online store business owner, you have the luxury of being able to run your business all while being able to travel and see the world around you. You would just first need to make sure you purchase a relevant domain name and build an official website… Once you have those two major necessities, you can vacation for work every day if you want!
Sign 3: Your Life is Predictable
When you run into a friend or associate and they ask how you’ve been, and you reply, “oh, same old, same old…” It’s definitely time for a vacation. There’s nothing wrong with continuity and establishing a routine but when your daily routine becomes something you can predictably quote, it’s time to shake things up a bit!
When you go to visit a foreign land, it gives you the gift of perspective, allowing you to see things in a different light. When you go on a vacation, don’t order any foods you would normally eat at home, don’t do any activities that you would normally do at home, and most importantly, don’t act like you would at home. Vacations are the time you have to let loose and relax… if you don’t want to make up the bed, then don’t.
You are in charge of your life and it’s up to you to take care of your body… sometimes a vacation is just what the doctor ordered!
